Ash gourd juice doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's not trendy. It's not photogenic in the way mango or watermelon juice is. But in Ayurvedic medicine, ash gourd — also called petha or white gourd — has been used for centuries as one of the most cooling, digestive, and calming things you can drink.
Here's a closer look at what it actually is, what it does, and how we make it.
What is ash gourd?
Ash gourd (Benincasa hispida) is a large, pale green vegetable with a white powdery coating — that's where the "ash" name comes from. In India, it's commonly called petha, and most people know it as the base ingredient in the sweet petha candy from Agra. As a vegetable, it's 96% water, remarkably light on the digestive system, and naturally cooling.
It doesn't have an intense flavour on its own — slightly neutral, a little sweet. That makes it a good base for juicing because it takes on the character of whatever you pair it with.
What ash gourd juice actually does
Cooling from the inside. Ash gourd has a naturally cooling effect on the body — particularly the gut. In Ayurveda, it's considered one of the best foods for managing excess pitta (heat). For people who run hot, have acidity issues, or live in a climate like Noida's summer, that's genuinely useful.
Light on digestion. Because it's mostly water and very low in fibre density, ash gourd juice is easy on the stomach. It hydrates without the heaviness of thicker juices like orange or mango.
Supports mental clarity. This is the traditional Ayurvedic claim, and there's some emerging research that ash gourd may have a calming, grounding effect on the nervous system. It's been used traditionally to reduce anxiety and support focus — not by stimulating like caffeine, but by calming.
Low calorie, high hydration. Ash gourd juice has almost no calories. If you're watching weight or managing blood sugar, it's one of the cleanest things you can drink.
Why cold pressing matters for ash gourd
Ash gourd is delicate. High-speed blending generates heat and oxidises the juice quickly — you lose a significant portion of the water-soluble vitamins and the juice oxidises fast. Cold pressing extracts the juice under hydraulic pressure with no heat, which means you get the full nutritional profile and the juice stays fresh longer.
How we make ours
Our Ash Gourd Pack has three cold-pressed combinations.
Body Gourd — Ash gourd, ginger, mint, black salt, black pepper, lemon. The ginger adds warmth that balances the cooling effect of the ash gourd. Black salt helps with digestion. Mint keeps it clean and sharp.
Petha Plus — Ash gourd, apple, black pepper, lemon. The apple sweetens, the black pepper activates digestion. The simplest of the three.
Cool Core — Ash gourd, cucumber, ginger, lemon, black salt. Cucumber doubles down on the cooling and hydration. This one is particularly good on hot days or post-workout.
All three are cold-pressed only after your order comes in. We don't press in advance. No storage, no pre-production. The juice you drink was pressed the same day it reaches you.
The Ash Gourd Pack is ₹449 for all three bottles (300ml each), delivering across Noida and Greater Noida.
